Mammography Technologist - Be the calm in a life-changing moment

You’re the one patients trust when the stakes feel highest. In this role, you’ll use advanced mammography and DEXA imaging to help catch disease early, guide treatment, and give people answers when they need them most.

You’ll be hands-on with both routine and special mammography views, needle localizations, and stereotactic biopsies, working directly with licensed practitioners to deliver clear, accurate studies.

And you won’t just run the equipment – you’ll comfort anxious patients, protect their privacy, and be an advocate for their safety and dignity.

What You'll Work On

• Diagnostic and screening mammography imaging
• Routine and special mammography views
• Needle localizations and stereotactic breast biopsies
• Mammography quality control workflows
• DEXA bone density scanning
• Radiation safety and dose management
• HIPAA-compliant imaging and records
• Care for patients with physical or mobility challenges

You’ll put your knowledge of radiation physics, anatomy and physiology, and infection control to work every day to support accurate diagnosis and safe, effective care. The core challenge: deliver technically excellent images while keeping patients calm, informed, and safe.

What You'll Be Doing

• Perform diagnostic and screening mammography exams using established protocols
• Position all types of patients, including handicapped patients, for optimal breast imaging
• Execute routine and special mammography views with a high degree of proficiency
• Perform bone density (DEXA) scans and ensure accurate, consistent results
• Assist with and perform needle localizations and stereotactic breast biopsy procedures
• Carry out mammography quality control tasks to maintain image quality and equipment performance
• Apply knowledge of radiation physics, anatomy and physiology, and infection control in daily practice
• Use computer systems to manage imaging workflows and patient information
• Provide compassionate, reassuring care to anxious and vulnerable patients
• Maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements
• Communicate clearly and professionally with physicians, peers, and interdisciplinary teams
• Deliver responsive customer service that respects cultural, linguistic, and age-related needs

What We're Looking For

• A.S. in Radiography or Diploma in Radiography from an AMA-approved school
• ARRT registration with mammography certification
• Rhode Island State License in Radiography
• Additional 40 hours of mammography-specific training
• At least 1 year of experience in mammography positioning on all types of patients, including handicapped patients
• Proficiency in routine and special mammography views
• Ability to perform bone density (DEXA) scans
• Working knowledge of mammography quality control, needle localizations, stereotactic biopsies, radiation physics, anatomy and physiology, CPR, and infection control
• Computer literacy and comfort with imaging and information systems
• Demonstrated customer service skills and strong collaborative communication

Important Requirements

ARRT with mammography certification required.

Rhode Island State Radiography License required.

A.S. or Diploma in Radiography from an AMA-approved school and 40 hours of mammography training required.

Ability to safely perform the physical demands of the role, including lifting more than 50 lbs, stooping, bending, kneeling, standing, walking, climbing, twisting, stretching, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
